Senior Case Manager
As a Senior Case Manager for The Focal Point, Jeremy has more than a decade’s experience managing trial strategy development and graphic production for complex litigation—including some of the country’s highest stakes trials. Jeremy has collaborated with trial teams on more than 150 matters, including work in both criminal and civil cases in virtually every area of litigation.
Representative cases include the dismissal of a $700 million claim against Genentech, an asbestos insurance trial that yielded a settlement in excess of $1 billion; a construction-related insurance bad faith case with a $383 million verdict, securities fraud class action in which Motorola agreed to a $190 million settlement payment right before trial, and a recent infringement verdict against IBM in EDTX.
Jeremy led The Focal Point’s six-month collaboration with the SEC which resulted in Waste Management’s former CFO, James Koenig, being found liable on all 60 counts of having falsified company accounts in a $1.7 billion accounting fraud that remains one of the largest in US corporate history. In 2008, Jeremy worked closely with a team from the US Department of Justice and the FBI to achieve three felony counts of conspiracy and mail-fraud against a former state senate majority leader. Jeremy also has significant experience in white collar defense cases, including the recent successful defense of a CEO in a criminal backdating trial.
Jeremy also assisted with the successful criminal prosecution in the 2001 San Francisco “dog mauling” trial, the dismissal of a $3 billion securities fraud class action, the highly publicized settlement payment of $440 million by Microsoft to Intertrust Technologies after a preliminary markman hearing, and an 18-month collaboration on a futures trading software case in Chicago which achieved a willful infringement verdict.
Jeremy joined The Focal Point after graduate study at UC Berkeley where he also competed with its squash and national champion crew teams. Jeremy holds a BA Hons (1st Class) in Art History and Theory and a BS in Medical Physiology from the University of Otago in New Zealand. He has also spent extended periods living and working in Europe. Outside of work, Jeremy has served as President of the Berkeley Men’s Rugby Club since 2005, and enjoys travelling the world with his wife Deborah.
